Relaxed proportions, carefully finished edges

A boxy body and dropped shoulders give the lace room to show. Narrow I-cord edges frame the neckline, hem and cuffs, adding a crisp outline to the textured fabric.

The shoulders set the shape

Begin with two I-cords, then pick up the back and front along their edges. German short rows shape the shoulders before the pieces join under the arms. With sleeves picked up and worked down, you can follow the construction without a final pile of seams.

Check your yarn and needles before you begin.

Yarn & tools

Hold one fingering strand with one lace strand throughout. Sizes 1–6 need approximately 1,045 / 1,230 / 1,410 / 1,760 / 1,960 / 2,240 m of each yarn.

4 mm needles for the I-cord and edgings; 4.5 mm for the body and sleeves. Use suitable circular lengths and double-pointed needles or magic loop for small circumferences. Also gather markers, a spare needle, tapestry needle, holders or waste yarn and a cable needle.

Gauge

21.5 stitches and 27 rows per 10 cm in the pattern stitch after blocking.
